Creating Dramatic Self Portraits feat. Fiona Lark by Sean Tucker. Sean is a brilliant photographer, filmmaker and all round lovely person. Fiona was excited and completely overwhelmed to be featured in his latest video on YouTube. Watch it here and don’t forget to subscribe to his famous YouTube Channel.

Sean Tucker “In this video I head up to the Lake District to interview Fiona Lark about her dramatic self portraits. She shares how and why she shoots her images, and how she came upon her style. In the era of the selfie she has a refreshingly earthy approach to shooting images of herself which have depth and texture to them, and go a long way to conveying personality and story.

Share this video on if you enjoyed it or found it helpful.”

Two days of photography in Iceland with Fiona Lark
I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to travel to Iceland, two whole days of making photos and filming. From the time I arrived to the time I left I felt this deep feeling of peace and calm. Iceland with its miles and miles of beauty.

In this video I wanted to convey the peace and beauty of the place. Normally I shoot in rain and cloudy dark conditions and if the weather isn’t suitable at home I come back tomorrow, here I knew and I had just two days to take photos and get it right. The conditions for the whole time I was there was wall to wall sunshine. Most of my shots were taken first thing in the morning and at sunset when the lighting was at its best or in the day finding shadows behind the mountains. A lot of my photos I’ve edited in colour, which is unusual for me. The amazing sunsets made the colour incredibly intense. It was a wonderful experience shooting in places that were new to me, I look forward to one day returning, a place where you actually have space to breathe.

I don’t normally take so much equipment when shooting but the lack of dry stone walls to balance my camera on like I normally do in the Lakes meant I had to take my tripod.

Out of my comfort zone, street portraits in Amsterdam by Fiona Lark
In this video I travel to Amsterdam to take street portraits. This is a million miles away from what I normally do, taking photos of the Lakes and mountains in the Lake District. I get so inspired by so many street photographers who make it look so easy. I wanted to try doing something completely out of my comfort zone. I think I was more worried about making people feel uncomfortable and self conscious along with my fear of being rejected. Although I was so nervous and it was harder than I thought it would be I really enjoyed this experience and met some beautiful souls on that hot August day in Amsterdam. Thank you for taking the time to watch. Let me know what you think and what you’d like to see in future videos.

My Three Favourite Photography Locations by Fiona Lark
